Gas Leaf Blowers and Bonita Canyon

You may be aware that the City of Newport Beach has issued a ban on gas powered leaf blowers, but has permitted common interest developments located within the City the ability to opt out of the ban. The Board of Directors for the Bonita Canyon Maintenance Association carefully reviewed this topic in an effort to be sensitive to everyone’s needs and concerns. It is important to note that the City does not recognize any distinction between the Association and homeowner lots, but reviews the covered property as whole. This means that any decision the Association makes with respect to opting out applies to individual homeowner contractors, as well as the Association’s.

After careful consideration, the Board of Directors has determined that it would be cost and labor prohibitive to remain in the ban and have, therefore, resolved to opt out, which essentially means that all residents’ service providers and the Maintenance Association’s contractors may use gas powered leaf blowers on all covered property throughout the community; however, the Association has worked with the janitorial service to discontinue the use of their gas leaf blowers and Park West Landscape has taken the initiative to pursue new technologies and upgraded blowers that function more quietly without a significant loss in results.

For more information on the City’s ban or the opt out process, please visit the City’s website by clicking on the following link:

If you have any additional questions specifically about the Association please feel free to contact District Manager Misty Thomas at mthomas@meritpm.com or 949.448.6066. Thank you.

Finding Kind Screening

Harbor Day School will be screening Finding Kind on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 from 7pm-9pm.

Finding Kind is a compelling new feature film and movement, based upon the powerful belief in KINDness, that brings awareness and healing to the negative and lasting effects of girl-against-girl bullying. Already creating buzz at film festivals and schools across the country, Finding Kind documents the 10,000-mile cross-country journey of Lauren Parsekian and Molly Stroud, two first time filmmakers who were both teen victims of “mean girls”.

The filmmakers will be at the screening to lead an assembly, answer questions and facilitate a discussion after the film. Tickets are $10 pre-sale and $15 at the door. To purchase tickets, go to http://harbordayschool.eventbrite.com
